People nowadays spend a lot more time on the internet, shopping and talking to friends, so it’s only natural that they use the internet for dating as well. With a simple search, it’s easy to find many dating chat rooms that encourage singles to meet and talk to each other. This is great because it eliminates that first date awkwardness and allows people to decide whether they like each other before they take that big first step of an actual date. Unfortunately, it can also lead to people being cheated. This is true in real life as well, but it’s much easier to hide unpleasant facts in a dating chat room. This may take the form of little white lies about appearance, or bigger issues such as underage children posing as adults, or even scam artists out to take advantage of unsuspecting frequenters of dating chat sites.

There are a few basic rules to dating chat that could help someone make the most of the situation and increase their chances of meeting someone they are compatible with.

The first is, before you join a dating site think carefully about whether it is for you. Some people would enjoy the prospect of talking to people who they’ve never met, while others could be uncomfortable with the idea.

Then, one of the most important rules of dating chat, you shouldn’t reveal personal information. It would be nice to be able to trust everyone, but sadly, not everyone is worthy of it. Don’t share any information that you wouldn’t want a stranger to know and that you would put up anywhere else on the net. If possible, use an alias that reflects your personality so you don’t give out your name.

Next, once you do join, try and avoid using uncommon acronyms. Although shortened forms are widely used in chat for speed and convenience, and dating chat is no exception, use acronyms that are commonly used, and don’t make up your own because that could cause misunderstandings.

Always respect the thoughts and opinions of others whether they are different from yours or not. Never use capitals in dating chat, or any kind of chat or email for that matter, as it represents shouting and is considered very rude.

Finally, enjoy yourself. Try not to focus too much on the dating aspect, but just have fun talking to the people you meet and they will see you at your best.
